DETROIT RIDDIM CREW “Out Of The Dark” LP

Detroit Riddim Crew’s third full length features 6 original songs with additional dubs by John Roy of Smoke & Mirrors Sound System. A jazzy roots reggae instrumental classic for fans of The Attractors, Flying Vipers, Gaudi, On-U Sound, Dub Syndicate, Easy Star All Stars, and Augustus Pablo.

These songs were written before and after band leader Eric Abbey experienced Sudden Cardiac Arrest and was brought back to life by his wife
Cassandra and the EMTs/doctors. Literally, coming out of the dark, Eric was determined to get these songs recorded and produced. To do this he put together a band of musicians from Detroit and the surrounding areas, and Detroit Riddim Crew was finally solidified. This record shows the prowess of the group as they interpret the writing in amazing ways. While Eric plays drums, piano, organ, trumpet, and melodica on the record, Joshua James joins on lead saxophone playing killer solos and leads. Ryan Gimpert brings the guitar expertise that is rooted in reggae with a
focus on tone and feel and the sound is rooted in the bass writing of Fonte Everette, who takes the reggae and ska to a new level. The lead singles “Trained Behavior” and “Reclaimed Space” showcase the groups form and technique, while the title track “Out of the Dark” demonstrates the dub quality of the music and the horn work of Josh and Eric. “Take it Back” demands that you groove with the crew and “Struck Up” gets you dancing. The final track, “One Step” is a song to motivate you through the day, week, of throughout life.
