product description

JUMP UP RECORDS is proud to add another amazing punk ska act to our roster – BRUNT OF IT! Last summer, we were lucky to catch one of their incredible live shows opening for BIM SKALA BIM in Boston. At that same time we discovered they formed from the ashes of one of our favorite 90’s bands: HOODLUM EMPIRE. After that weekend, we were “all in” to release their new album and put one of their tracks on the Supernova launched sampler RECORD HEAT!

BRUNT OF IT lies somewhere in the vast void between Bad Brains and Bad Manners. Forged from the ashes of West Coast Ska Hardcore legends Hoodlum Empire in 1995, the Rhodachusettes boys are celebrating 30 years of their own blend of hardcore punk rock, clashy reggae & “NO WAVE” ska.
From the basements to the stages, Brunt Of It finds a unique way of getting the crowd to move and likely laugh. Back on their bullshit in 2025 with a full horn section, keys and dual lead vocals, you won’t hear another band quite like Brunt of It in a sea of cookie cutter ska.

“In a Mad, Bad, Sad, Rad World” is the 4th and newest record from Brunt of It, the first in a lucky 13 years. After a hiatus of having kids, building businesses and solo adventuring around the globe, the boys are back with a record that was clearly written for themselves to enjoy. Putting their own spin on the politics of today, the hopes and dread of tomorrow and the horrors of yesterday, “IAMBSRW” covers a wide swath of the many sub-genres of Ska. From 3rd wave pop, to latin infused, to clashy euro, surfy vibes and straight up 80’s punk, this record rides the rollers with a sense of bewilderment for all that rock and roll ska has to offer. Recorded mostly on their own, but finished and mixed by Engineer mastermind Trevor Riley (A Wilhelm Scream) at Anchors End studios in New Bedford, MA , this record sounds like a freight train of sound, meshing blasting horns, intricate vocal harmonies and interesting song writing that takes turns you may not expect but were desperate to hear. The dynamics from loud and crunchy, to controlled and melodious, this record is a roller coaster of motion and emotion. Songwriters Boofish & NicRob write about their experiences, their stories, their optimism and pessimism for the world. Points are made, but they also leave room for interpretation and some imagination. The first track features Dave McWane (Big D & The Kids Table).

Limited edition red and yellow vinyl, 500 copies.
