product description

Twang [twæŋ] is an onomatopoeic word from American English. It is used as a musical term for a ringing guitar tone rich in overtones, usually produced on and with electric guitars. Various construction factors of the instrument and the guitarist's playing style are involved in the formation of such a tone, which is also described as bell-like to sometimes sharp. It happened at a time when the world seemed to stand still. Some said it was just a big trick, others hid at home and waited for things to come. As so often in life, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. But that is another topic. The Stuttgart SKA legend NO SPORTS decided to rebel against this numbness and made the plan to use this time of pestilence to do the only sensible thing you can do in life: Music with offbeat guitars. After all, a legend status has to be further underpinned. And besides, all those involved in this merry combo want to finally become rich and famous... Irony ?! In any case, mastermind Michael Friedrich aka D. Mark Dollar immediately got to work, opened his music stand and provided the rest of the combo with 13 freshly written pieces, accordionist Moni Schweikardt contributed another piece to solve the world polka problem and ex-bandmate Kaspar Dudás agreed to implement a piece that had been lying around for a long time. And everyone was eager to get this song material into shape. Under the aegis of the wonderful Wolfram 'Wolle' Göz, bassist and engineer of the band, a recording concept was created in a very short time, which the world - in this case the very tranquil world of our two-tone rockers NO SPORTS - had never seen before. Despite all the adverse circumstances, the recordings were made between December 2020 and June 2021 in NO SPORTS' bunker and the 'M-Flow' studio in Stuttgart. The result is a fresh album ranging from soft to hard, slow to very fast, political to sweet, sometimes jazzy then again almost punky. With a selection of 12 songs on vinyl and 15 on CD, NO SPORTS continue to write their 35-year history and prove that neither SKA itself nor the band are "out". On the contrary, they are fearless and, what NO SPORTS has always been known for, more than open to new ideas and interpretations of the SKA genre. And of course they feel equally committed to the tradition and roots of their beloved music. The band themselves say: "We think it has become as much "Twang!" as possible and as little "German quality product" as necessary and wish you as much fun listening to it as we had recording it. This record has definitely helped us to make the best of a difficult time - and that's what life is kind of about, isn't it?" Stay rude, stay rebel!
